RESTYLED RICKENBACKER 330 WALNUT

This new 330 Walnut was sent to STUDIO CALIFORNIA to give it some features to set it apart from the usual 330 walnut Rickenbackers.

After some brief discussion, we agreed to add double binding, full-width abalone fret markers, white neck and sound hole binding, and a Mastery bridge. Pickups were swapped for toasters. This is a 330 unlike any others!

Bottom photo shows a detail of the binding. Unlike earlier Rickenbacker 330 guitars, which have somewhat squared-off top and back edges, the new Walnut models have edges that are generously radiused, perhaps to discourage chipping of the softer Walnut wood. To properly bind these later guitars, the binding must first be installed, and then it must be radiused, too, to accommodate the existing radiused edge. It goes without saying that this is triple the work of simply binding a guitar with a square edge!
